How I Am Going To Lose My Last Ten Pounds
Jan 10th 2009 · by Catherine Osthaus
I have had a bit of trouble losing my last ten pounds. It is incredibly frustrating to exercise and eat well and still not see results. I know the reason why…
It is the lack of sleep. Sleeping five-six hours a night creates unnecessary physical and emotional stresses. Cortisol levels are increased and that can have a negative impact on insulin. Drinking caffeinated beverages like coffee and tea throughout the day also have a negative impact on insulin. I have been on a low carb diet to regulate my insulin and yet these bad habits are contributing to elevated insulin.
How To Get Better Sleep
To fix this I am going to establish a regular bedtime routines. That means going to sleep every single day at the same time and waking up every single day at the same time. I will also take valerian root to help fall asleep. Valerian root works really well for me and I can fall asleep very quickly and sleep deeply.
I would love to hear if you have had any experiences with sleep and weight loss/gain.
To your health and wellness,

I don’t know how old you are although pre menopause can start as early as 27 and can cause sleeplessness and bio progesterone would be in order. However, I would think since you have a cortisol problem it would be more adrenal stress. Do you have a good bio identical hormone doc near you who would actutually test you for low adrenals and low thyroid (and treat you as many docs won’t for God only knows why) as they many times go hand in hand and you can’t treat a thyroid problem until you have the adrenals under control. I use natural armour thyroid (although I am going to switch to Naturthroid as it doesn’t have anything in it that will irritate my allergies) and natural cortef. I am down to a quarter of a cortef pill now. I was having hot flashes (even though I am 58 I am not in meno and the hot flashes are from low adrenals)and they stopped as soon as I got on the cortef. I hadn’t slept well in almost 4 years and when I got on these meds I started sleeping like a baby and it is wonderful. We also got a Denver matress (a Vail) and it has helped alot too. I do low carb (I had tow low carb stores in my city at one time) but because of my thyroid I haven’t been able to get off the last 20 lbs. However, it takes usually a year to get the thyroid meds right and I am opnly at 5 months and I go back to the doc in a couple weeks and he will up my meds. I hope this is helpful and feel free to email me with any questions.
Hi Linda,
I have actually been thinking about getting tested for bio identical hormones. I have been reading Suzanne Somers books and she writes about her excellent experience with bio identical hormones.
Adrenal Stress is also a good issue that I will discuss with my doctor. I do need to read and educate myself more in this area.
Thank you, I really appreciate your comment!
